slips lingerie
I just recently got back from vacation in Pigeon Forge Tn. I love going to the Leggs/Hanes/Bali/Playtex outlet there. They always have great deals, and a pretty big selection of pantyhose. I usually buy the majority of my everyday hose there. I had told Lee all about the selections that they had there (she was with me) and she was so excited to come with me to buy some hose as well. When we walked in, I was so disappointed!! They had scaled down their pantyhose selection by at least 75%!!!!!! They had only a small selection of hose in the back corner of the store. Maybe 8 racks tops. No sales on hose at all, no Philippe Matignon, and no fashion hosiery. They had their basic line, Hanes and Leggs, which is fine, but it just wasn’t the experience that I was used to.I bought my basic line of hose and left pretty disappointed. I just had to vent. This was one of my favorite stores.

That does suck Dawn. It’s not just the outlets. I also notice major department stores are displaying and selling less pantyhose product lines and styles. Even trying to find pantyhose in some discount department stores has become an impossible task.

Pantyhose used to be on huge displays near the main store entrances. Now the displays seem to have been shoved off into some remote corner and off the main level of the stores.
I guess all we can do is keep buying pantyhose and hope this disturbing trend reverses soon.

Nice legs. Are You wearing pantyhose?
Are these pantyhose for you?
I love wearing pantyhose. Nothing looks and feels better.
Some of the bigger stores have such a small selection, it is embarrasing.
Sales are almost impossible to find, unless it is a line that sucks [like Hanes Alive]
I was about a year ago, but I went to a Dillards in colorado springs that had a selection that would have put a lot of stores during the 80’s to shame.
Honestly tho, the selection at most stores is so small it is almost obnoxious.

Dawn, how long ago did you visit that outlet? I mean before this last time?
This isn’t something that’s just limited to the States either. Things are depressingly similar here in the UK too. Debenhams is one of our larger department stores, and AllSheerGuy’s post hits the nail on the head as far as they are concerned.
House of Fraser is another top store, and while their content could never be faulted- Wolford, Pretty Polly, Aristoc, Falke, DKNY, La Perla, Charnos, etc- the hosiery displays are now much smaller and less prominent than of a couple of years or so back.
It is true.
Choice pharmacy put the entire stock on sale and now no longer sells PH at all.

Department stores seem to carry less and less. And it is almost impossible to find sheer-to-waist. Almost everything is control top. The only PH I see regularly in all sheer is Leggs no nonsense, which will work as a last ditch attempt, but I certainly pine for the more sheer offerings.
I prefer sheer to waist, though control top can work. The problem is my gf absolutely hates control top, she does not need them and she does not like the way they look at all. The “french cut panty” features in Leggs Barely There, and some Hanes such as Silky Sheers can be acceptable to us both in the absense of pure S2W.
I do most of my nylon shopping online now. Leg Avenue, Pretty Polly (10 den Italia luxury cinn. Yum!) along with Wolford are among our favorites.
I agree that we need to purchase PH to encourage more sales, but I hate that I can not find PH that suit our needs.

Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
Recently at a mall near me, the Hecht’s closed and was replaced by a Macy’s (Macy’s bought out Hecht’s). The Macy’s was already in the mall, but they moved to where the Hecht’s was and a Boscov’s moved where the Macy’s used to be. Anyway, at the old Macy’s, they had a fairly large hosiery section on the 1st floor, near the shoe department. When they moved to the new location, they put the hosiery section on the 3RD FLOOR, near the electronics!!! It’s about half the size of what it was before they relocated. I don’t get it.
What’s not to get? I’m sure you’ve seen all those articles about “Hose Just Ain’t Sellin’ No Mo!”

No self-respecting department store is going to waste valuable floor space on something that just isn’t moving, no matter how they may feel about pantyhose personally. They’d much rather sell chihuahua purses, belly button jewelry, asshole floss, tattoo moisturizer, or whatever the fuck young hotties are wasting their money on these days.
Plus, I’m sure that Internet sales have hurt at least some segments of the traditional pantyhose business. I couldn’t tell you the last time I bought pantyhose at a department store (after all, they all carry the same boring shit — Hanes and whatnot) and I like to try new and different hose.

It seems like I’m not the only who has noticed shrinking pantyhose displays.

I like sheer to waist best. That has always been the hardest style to locate. Unless you are planning on wearing real short shorts or skirt, sheer to waist pantyhose may not be the best chioce for durability.
The panty part, whether it’s Regular or Control Top lasts considerably longer under pants than all sheer pantyhose.
Of course Legg’s Sheer Energy with the sheer panty still seems to be available in most places where pantyhose is still sold. I just wish I could still find it in Q+. I recently bought several pairs of No Nonsense Sheer To Waist at Walmart. I used to wear them a lot in my younger high school and college days. They have something like 3% spandex in them. I’m glad they are still available and low priced. They’re pretty good for wearing out too. Not that much shine but they look pretty good and are fairly durable.
Check out K Mart too. They have a sheer to waist “house brand”. They are 100% nylon. For 99 cents they are hard to beat.

I’m starting to purchase these pantyhose for the upcoming warmer months so I’ll have a nice suply to wear out with shorts.
There’s less choices in pantyhose these days but I still like shopping for them and wearing them of course.

It’s no different in other countries. Here in Turkey, the only stuff you can find in mainstream stores is the usual daily brands & models. For other stuff you have to go to a store that sells hosiery alone, which are located only in the big cities. Pathetic, since Turkey is boasting off about how they’ve gone up in the international hosiery market.
I guess you all said it well, this is strictly business for markets & stores, and they do what they have to do.

Our experience in Europe has been quite good in the big cities.
The large department stores have huge pantyhose/tights departments.
Athens - Attica, Hondos
Moscow - GUM department store has at least 4 hosiery stores
St. Petersburg - multiple stand alone hosiery stores

Helsinki - Stockmans, Sokos
Amsterdam - De Bijenkorf
London - Harrods
You also find stand alone Wolfords, Falke and Palmers on the street.
One last observation is every street market we’ve gone to has booths that sell pantyhose/tights.
Thanks guys for the replies!
The TJ Maxx by my house is the same way along with Marshals. I have bought some nice pantyhose from there and now there is nothing. I even think that some of the pantyhose racks were replaced by racks of flip-flops.
The only department store that has hose in the front of the store around here is Dillards. As soon as you walk in, they are right in front of your face. They even have a few advetisements sitting around the store.
The last time I was in that particular store was back in August of 06. Not too long ago. But you know, they had a huge sale. Everything was on clearance and they had a bunch of hose that were to be discontinued, so I guess that should have been my clue that they were changing things around. I was hoping that it meant they were getting in some new styles, but instead, a smaller selection and big disappointment.

I guess I am going to have to stick with buying hose online, or move to Europe. I would love to just walk down the street and buy some of my favorite hose.
Thanks guys for listening to me gripe!

Sad, indeed! But it seems to makes sense as, business-wise, these retailers are at the very end of the food / supply chain: The trend up until the recent past (esp. in cities like NYC where you’d expect to see nylon legs everywhere) has been to go bare legged even in cooler seasons; Selling less means stores may carry less and so on down the line.
That appears to be changing (if you believe the fashion world) so we may all see an upswing in supply & variety in all retailers!
I say we should all do our part to reverse this annoying trend. I say buy lot’s of pantyhose and never go barelegged again. Ever.
