actually it has more to do with their merchandise and being overpriced. I’ve bought vic ph for my wife and they’re not that great and waaaaaaaaaaay overpriced…..plus they didn’t offer much in the way of styles that I liked.

I simply adore well-dressed women in silky sheer pantyhose and I would enjoy both seeing and chatting about pantyhose. My wife wears them alot and I get to shop with her. Love to chat with another male about our wives pantyhose collection.
This does not surprise me. The quality of their hose has really declined in the past 5 years, as has their selection. I noticed it when they stopped selling pantyhose in the catalogs.
A few years ago I called the catalog and asked why there were no pantyhose in it. The girl told me that “most women won’t order their pantyhose from the catalog. They go to VS stores to get them.” I then told her that there were styles that my (then) wife liked that we weren’t able to find in the store, only in the catalog. She basically didn’t know what to tell me at that point, so I gave up.
About a year ago, my girlfriend and I went into our local VS, and the selection was very slim. Not even 1/4 what it used to be in the glory days. Now, I simply look at VS as a glorified bra and panty (ooh, how exciting) retailer. Oh, I almost forgot; they also sell perfume.
I seem to recall that this started some years ago, around about the time when they discontinued the seamless pantyhose (1999 if my memory serves me). At that time they were planning to cut back on hosiery in most stores and have a small number of “hosiery boutiques”. It came as no suprise to me that these specialist hosiery stores never appeared.
Ironically it is the increase of sales of hosiery on the web, and I suspect the availability of European hosiery via the web in the USA, that has tipped the balance for some hosiery resellers. As sales volumes drop the margins are no longer there to justify the sales space.
Two of the big prestige department stores local to me in Manchester (UK) don’t sell hosiery at all, even though they sell in other stores around the country. The reason is mathematics…. they have rent, heating, staff costs and profits to bring in from sales. They add up all these figures and divide by the floor area of the store. Anything that can’t bring in that many £ per sq metre ($ per square foot) they don’t sell.
It is the same reason why Harrods in London sell Fogal, Wolford etc at £20 ($40) a pair rather than cheaper brands. They are in about the weathiest place in the World and the hosiery they sell takes little space.
They could never sell enough hosiery at £3 ($6) a pair to make money.

The VS Goldline Seamless Pantyhose were awesome. VS stopped making them well over 10 years ago. I purchased three pair approximately 14-15 years ago at a cost of $24 each. I still have each pair and they are in pristine condition. They wear very well if you are careful with them. The VS seamless were actually very popular because they are so darned sexy. Unfortunately, they were discontinued due to the high costs associated with manufacturing them. VS couldn’t continue to make them and sell them at only $24. It was felt that american consumers would not spend in excess of $30 for a pair of pantyhose. You can often find a pair of VS Seamless still in it’s orginal packet on Ebay. Bidding can be fierce for size LARGE. Expect to pay at least $80 per pair for VS Seamless size large
