OK let me ask you this, when was the last time you had worn them before you noticed the change.

I think I know what you’re talking about. Since about 2002 or so you can no longer get the reinforced toes directly off the shelf. At the retail stores in my area, the selection is limited to Active Support with only sheer toe in Suntan, Off Black, Taupe, or Nude.

If you go to the outlet stores for Leggs/Hanes/Bali, or order out of the OneHanesPlace catalog, you can still get reinforced toe, and other colors like Navy and Coffee.

I not only stole a friends hose from her trash (16 or so pair over the years) but I also sent pairs of her hose to several women who shot videos posing in them. Read on-

In the early nineties I worked with a gal who was considered (with us males at least) the “Babe of the Office”. Over the years we became friends. I always got the car door for her and loved to see the sun light gleam off her legs. After a while she did realize that I was a leg man and liked taupe colored hose. Through our conversations over those years I found out that she wore Legg’s Silken Mist, Control Top hose. One conversation in particular she said she didn’t where panties underneath (that was a lunch I’ll never forget) and that I thought hose with a run or two in them were sexy. She always wore taupe except for a few times in which she wore the nude shade or a navy or a white (yuk) color.

My son and I were driving and he saw the local Walmart store and wanted to go so of course being the good father I went in. Unfortunately taking him into ANY store with toys in it is a bad idea since he wants everything he sees, but I digress. Anyway, here I am with my son in one of the toy aisles and I see this female manager, whom I can say I have never seen at any time in that store without her wearing pantyhose.

While my son looks at the toys I jokingly asked her if she would put me out of my misery, as my son simply would not cooperate, and she gave a chuckle. I then said that she was kind of an oddity, to which she got a confused look on her face and I said it was because she wore hose. She then told me that one of her relatives had asked her if she knew she was in Florida and it was hot down here, which it can be, and she said that she knew it was Florida and was not about to give up her hose. At this point I was kind of dumbfounded, but I told her that my wife is also the same way and wears hose all the time as well. She asked what kind and I told her Leggs Active Support and she then said she has had great luck with the store brand support hose and I should let my wife know about them.

i remember l’eggs commercials most, especially one where busy women were ducking behind cars/bushes/building columns so they could pull up their sagging pantyhose. it was during the mid-80’s, and i was definitely wearing by then.

now i get excited if the victorias secret annual sale commercial even mentions “hosiery”.
I”ve found a few here and there on the viral video channels — YouTube, Google, Yahoo, and the like. There used to be a site called Frankie Leggs or something like that, but I believe it was shut down as of the last time I checked it.

I hope someone from the industry reads this! You have to put yourselves in the conscience of the public. Attack the bear legged look with a commercial with a womens overly tanned and waxed legs! Ick! Use a slogan like “Bare, eh it’s ok..but sheer..Oh my!” Use younger girls to pose like Cheetah girls etc. You cannot stop advertising cold and then wonder why the market has gone down!

I don’t know if this article has been posted here before, as it’s over 6 months old. There was one part of the article that got my blood boiling, and that is the following quote:

“Hanesbrands doesn’t plan to pump money into its hosiery business, which has been eroding for several years as pantyhose have fallen out of fashion. “We don’t see any change in that, so we manage that business for cash,” Mr. Chaden says.
