The trouble, Jenni, is that people come back to where the originally posted. If they didn’t figure out the best place for their post initially, they probably won’t figure out where it got moved to.
Additionally, by the time a thread is moved, there’s the potential it’ll catch response that won’t make any sense in any other forum.
However, there have been cases where while pointing out to the original poster that their thread might serve their intent somewhere else better, I’ve asked them if they’d like me to move it. If they come back saying “Yes” before too many additional responses accumulate, I’ve moved the thread.

I think this is yet another instance where we could use sticky threads. Better still would be a rewriten and easier to find (as in nearly jumping out at people) statement of rules and important posting tips. Alas, my inquiries as to such have met with somewhat deaf ears.
So I think as long as we continue educating as many as we probably do best leaving these posts where they are. I mean, there’s no harm in simply telling people there’s a better forum here for their thread, and then letting the misplaced thread die on its own. Anyone that looks at the misplaced thread can quickly enough see why responses didn’t pile up.
Anyway, I personally prefer a more passively management style, letting much alone as long as it stays within bounds. A more structured and regulated site just seems to me like management and its representatives start taking on more of the liability that should belong with each poster. Here I’d rather guide things (when possible) instead of channel them.

Personally, I like LJ’s idea, and would love to see some of this stuff moved to the right location. Maybe you could notify the poster that it was going to be moved first, and where, so they would know where to look for responses. Some though have been here forever, and we know they are NOT going to get any more responses, and likely the original posters are even long gone and won’t be coming back. Maybe they have even died or forgotten this place even exists? Just a thought.
In the case of dude007 here, he at least took our advice and posted another simular thread at “Doctor Incest”.
