I find myself in a bit of a regrettable situation here. I have put all of this information on Hip Forums believing it to be sound and truthful of Rainbow consensus. If it is not true, and is just information being pushed by people going against what was decided at vision council then I retract any support for it.

I am unaware of which side of the story is true, but wish to make clear that I hold a stance of neutrality on the opposing positions.

I would like to reiterate what I have spoken about in other areas of the forum, that yes a gathering like that of Rainbow would be illegal over here and would be bloody hard to pull off. Family members would be constantly getting hassle from the local councils and police etc. Saying that it would be something quite amazing if the Family did manage to pull it off.

From a different perspective, some people here may know that I am involved with the UK Camp Scene, particularly Oak Dragon. If Rainbow came to England it would both harm progress of the camps due to a need for large numbers in 2006, and it would also no doubt have legal repercussions regarding the government’s treatment of our camps. We can’t have non-commercial gatherings on a big scale here any more so the Camp Scene is all we have left, I don’t think it would take much more than a few thousands rainbows invading England to make the government crack down on us.

I do however know and love the Hopi Prophecies and believe that if Rainbow came to England, the spirit of the Rainbow would not be diluted by anything. If it comes it’s meant to be and I’m sure it will be strong, part of me however hopes for the Camp Scene’s sake that it actually doesn’t.

i received both informations some time ago via eurocyrcle digest, and i don’t know what will be. from limited info i have, i concluded that relations goverment-family in uk are somewhat similar as in usa - hostile. i’m not surprised spain is mentioned. this spring (april 2005) healing gathering was in andalusia spain and it seems it was good gathering. any info from the first hand?
The government-family relationship in england is more than a little hostile. It is out right war. Last time anybody tried to have a gathering like this it ended in scores of men, women and children being brutaly hospitalised by police and having their live in vehicles destroyed!

I’m afraid things do really suck on this side of the pond, the government is doing all sorts of stupid things. The law against gathering is The Public Order Act 1986. There’s loads of other dum stuff though like bringing in ID Cards, stopping people from making jokes about other peaples religions, all the stupid terrorism laws, its very very annoying. Britain is slowly turning into a fascist sate as more and more of our rights get taken away.

As far as gatherings are concerned, we used to have gatherings 10 times the size of any rainbow gathering that theres ever been but Margeret Thatcher put an end to all of that when she sent out her boys in blue to smash it all up. But we still have th Camp Scene which is really cool.
Yeah, there’s been word of National ID cards and datatbases getting thrown around here too. RFID chips, video cameras everywhere (though I know london has plenty of those =S) Its funny that not only did Orwell write 1984, but its rediculously popular and thousands of people read it and study it in schools, yet no one can see it becoming reality around them? I grow weary of this society…
Well lets see if things get any better in the next few years, I know things seem to be getting worse, but a lot of us faith in the Hopi prophecies, and also question what will happen in winter solstice 2012 when the Mayen calender ends.

Saying all of this, no society is perfect, and yes in my opinion Rainbow is both a society and an organisation. However some individuals claiming to be Rainbows have pissed me off in a major way in the past. As I said this is mainly people that are on a high horse or have become fanatical, which i dont think is the trend among most of the Rainbows. I wouldn’t be to worried about them, and maybe you should check out the English gathering if it all goes ahead. You may prefer to get on the UK Camp Scene instead though.

Hi there! I don’t mean this to sound bigoted in any way, but I AM curious, and maybe you guys have an idea. I’ve surfed around alot of different forums, many not at all related to Rainbow, and I am finding that many posters from the UK in general seem to have a "different" outlook on life. One I can not relate to. In general they seem to be quite self absorbed and testy and somewhat judgemental, even hysterical in some cases. I’m wondering if you think this could be psycological fallout from exposure to the same theories that caused this "Thatcher" govt. to shut down the gathering scene, and create a sort of dictatorship as far as some freedoms go there? I just wonder what your input is regarding this, because I’ve been noticing this for quite a while, and I’m perplexed.

i know what u mean, the fact is that the UK is generally a pretty depressed nation. we used to have a proud working class that has now been essentially destroyed by the thatcher years, and we also had a proud and magical alternative scene made of the new age travellers and the free festivals and the squatting scne, but all that also got very messed up by the thatcher years.

there is a lot of anger and resentment in the british public, problem is that a lot of brits dont know what they’re angry at or how to channel the anger and do something about it.

there is hope for us though…..

Britain has the most wonderful places to gather, places of such beauty one begins to quiver at the thought of them, britain holds all of the ancient magicks, we are the land of the celts, the land of king arthur, the home of stonehenge, and many other wonderful things.

Sure the weather is crap here, but in England, we know how to gather! We used to get tens of thousands every year at Stonehenge free festival as we did at all of the other gatherings.

Britain has become a hard place over the last few decades, a scary place full of depression and with very little love. I think that Rainbow coming here must be able to have some kind of an effect. I wont be there even though i’m the Rainbow Scout to Northumberland, as my duties lye with Oak Dragon and the other native tribes of England, however, I am working to make the gathering happen, because there will be big magic and beauty.

Yeah I think that a lot of the family just kind of put England and Wales together as one country. I know that Scotland definately isn’t being looked at, but yes really it’s England and Wales have Rainbow ‘06.

BRIGHTON ROCKS its open minded & a huge collective of alternative people….anyone know of a good site in sussex? I know of one altho its small so its great for camps/small gatherings but not a rainbow international…..I also feel Scotland…dont know why but it feels better than the thought of Wales….I love Wales not sure tho how it would go down with the rest of the Welsh community…

The gathering wont be in Scotland as the country of choice was decided as England/Wales by the concensus (or so we’re told).

There are a variety of places that we are looking at although it is very difficult to find a place that fits all the needs we have to stage a gathering. I am hoping that the gathering will be in Northumberland. This is because I feel that locating the camp in the north will help avoid any major clash with the Camp Scene. Also Northumberland is relatively unknown as one of Britain’s most beautiful areas of countryside.

Hopefully a decision will at least become closer towards being made at the next couts meeting.

Ooh - my one hundredth post!

Rainbow-Circle has announced their support for the European Rainbow Gathering. They have scheduled the gathering in as part of their season of camps and plan to bring their big lodge and some domes to the gathering.

This has raised the question of equipment and tat pile at the gathering. Does any body out there happen to have lots of good stuff for building up a big gathering – i.e. tarps, domes, big lodges, marquees, wood burning stoves, industrial size cooking equipment etc?

If anybody does have this kind of thing or knows where we can borrow it from for free, or extremely cheaply, please let me know.

yes it is but that just means creating a user name and a pass word, if people sign up to that site to get rainbow info (and info on a load of other happenings) u might want to use the same name u have on here as there are already a few other people here that are on there and then u will be able to recognise each other. but yeah its a good site with lots of info, however i will be adding most of the info that is on that site to this thread.

Hello. I am confused about where the European Gathering will be. Is it England/Wales or Spain? Or do we not know yet?

According to it under "International" in the Calendars section, it is going to be held in England, but like it has been said before on this topic a large gathering of people that don’t support this government or system is likely to be squashed.

Let me know please. I can’t WAIT for it!! This will be my first gathering and I am going to LOVE it

Is Prince Williams coming to visit the place? or his other brother either one is fine with me.
There has been about of confusion about the European gathering this year but i can confirm that the 24th european rainbow gathering will be being held in England from 26th July to 23rd August and the seed camp starts on the 25th July. A site for the gathering has not yet been confirmed but it will be in England or Wales.

Some people will stay for the entire gathering but people are welcome to come and go as they please and stay as long as they want to. I know that a lot of people have commitments to other gatherings including myself. I will only be at the gathering for the last week as I do Rainbow2000 camps and the Oak Dragon camp which clash with it. After the Rainbow gathering is over I’ll be travelling over to Super Spirit for the last few days of that.

There will probably be drugs at the gathering mostly stuff like weed and mushrooms, so you will brobably be able to get hooked up quite easily. It’s also a very good environment for taking such things for the first time.

Well it really depends on how you want to do things. I know people who turn up with nothing but a guitar and a bowl, but u might want a little more than that. If i was u id think about bringing a tent, sleeping bag, clothes for every different weather condition, wellington boots, musical instruments, cooking equipment, bog roll, fire lighters and anything that is sacred and magical to you.
I won’t be bringing that much stuff! I guess I’ll just decide what I need when the time arrives to pack and leave the home for wherever it is.

Picture Woodstock (1969) ‘cept all the music is acoustic. Thousands of people camped throughout the woods, bongo drums echoing across the meadow, camp kitchens serving free food. People of all different religions coming together to pray for world peace. (At least that’s the idea) Since we’re different religions, we don’t pray with words (or there’d just be arguing), we hold hands in a circle before the meal and say: "Ommmmm… Ommmm…". When there’s thousands of people in the circle, there are pretty amazing vibrations. Of course there are people who show up just to get loaded or steal your shit, that’s mostly just the American nationals. It’s our job to show these people a better way. You’ll find plenty of religious wing nuts, but it’s a great place to connect with artists, poets, musicians; certainly anybody could find friends at a Rainbow Gathering. Even the forest rangers are nice, when they’re not trampling us with their horses, arresting people for being naked, or writing tickets for digging holes, illegally gathering, or smoking grass in the woods.

I think the first gathering was in ‘72. {Colorado} They called it the gathering of the tribes because it was different hippy crews from around the country meeting up. I don’t know all the details, I’m sure you could find it on the web somewhere. It basically started with Woodstock. Grateful Dead, Merry Pranksters, you should read the Electric Koolaid Acid Test by Tom Wolfe.
Well the lates happening is that we’re holding an international collective meditation to help the English Rainbow Family in their mission to find land for the gathering and to help them all work together better.

Other than that we’re still looking for land, scouts should be coming up north soon where I’m trying to organise a full moon scouts meeting to work out the next stage of the work. We might be heading ocer to the Holy Island to see if we can do our thang there. Who knows?

I’m sorry I can’t give you any info at the moment Sun_Angel, we are trying hard to find a site but its an uphill struggle. We should have somewhere within the month. hey i will be in england in jan-may 2007. I hope i can go to a gathering while i’m out there.
Hi Bumble, obviously due to the very cold and wet weather at that time of year we don’t have much in the way of gatherings going on. This is the first year that the Rainbow Family are coming to England and they probably wont have another gathering here for many years to come. A tribe called Rainbow Circle have their Beltane Gathering from 29th April - 14th May and there’s a few other things going on but they will almost definately be ticketed gatherings rather than Magic Hat.

What part of England are you going to be in? There are a fair few alternative scene type places that are definately worth a visit like the Findhorn Community and the eco-village at Tinker’s Bubble. Another place that you should definately stay at is Tipi Valley in Wales. One of the most amazing communities that I’ve ever had the privillage to stay with.

If you need any info or just fancy a chat about good old England, please feel free to ask. I’m putting two links below to websites for the Camp Scene Directory and Festival Eye. They have pretty good listings of all the stuff going on throughout the year. They won’t be updated for 2007 yet but most of the gatherings will probably be the same.

I tend to spend most of my time in Tipis and huts out in the wilds, but if you like big cities then u’ll love london!
