i checked the weather report. average daytime temp around 80 (great-not too hot!) it gets to be round 60 by 8 pm, and down to 40 through the night. bring some blankets!
lol .. yep… Ive been keeping an eye on that too … last week it said it was going down in the 30’s one night ….. *brrrrrr* yep people, come prepared lol
Gooooose bumps…… ha ha… breaking out the beanie…. and I belive steamboat is lower elevation than the gathering site…. ANyone read those topos better than me?? just how much are the differences between the gathering site and steamboat elevations….

Mike…
The difference is 2,000 feet, steamboat is at 6800 and the site is roughly 8800, its gonna be a lot colder at the site.
is it true that, at that elevation, people who aren’t used to the change (me, for example!) will experience some altitude sickness? my friends told me that any substance that enters the body at a higher altitude will make me twice as fucked up. is this true? 8800 ft. seems pretty elevated!
In my experiences, I have not known anyone to get very sick at an elevation less than 10,000 ft, just keep yourself as hydrated as possible, but every person is different. You will get more drunk at a higher elevation, I’m not sure about other substances.
i don’t do good in cold weather so you may see me walking around with my blanket at night..LOL…I’m coming WELL prepared.
altatude sickness can affect you in the 9000 range as well, above 10,000 your suposed to use oxygen if your there longer then 30 minutes however smokeres & anyone with any breathing issues should a lower altitudes, osha helps get rid of the altitude sickness & helps u absorb oxygen better (yarrow too i hear) both grow above 10,000 right where u need it
as for temp, it is possible to be 90 durring the day & drop below freezing at night, so be prepared for all weather
a couple stones from the firepit will keep ya warm, just make sure theyre not too hot
i’m predictin alotta cuddle puddles just for warmth
utah was worse & higher, & i remember every night stayin by the fire till i saw the 1st kints of light, grabbin 5-6 hot rocks & huggin em in my sleepin bag..by the time the rocks cooled off the sun was warmin up the tent..i’d get a couple hours sleep in & wake up sweattin like crazy & dehydrated
on the plus side, at that altitude the stars are truly awe inspiring
anyone know though, is there hard woods to burn? or just pine?
Don’t be scared little feller, your town will survive
Mike…
actualy south park will get quite a economic boom after the gatherin, i know a buncha folks are headed there after..drum circle in cartmans backyard yay

also, there’s the manditory birth re-enactment, from a pit of mud, naked, don’t forget that!
serriously though folks, I heard a rumor (I know I know, good rainbow boys and girls pay no heed to rumors) about a fire ban, any truth?
I am a Steamboat resident and as far as I know there are no fire bans. Lots of very dry, hot weather though… so please be careful when you are here and burning fires.
A warning to all visitors. The Steamboat animal control issued a public statement yesterday that any dogs found "at large" will be issued an automatic $50 ticket and they charge $15 per day to house your animal in the shelter. Ususally there is a first and sometimes a second time warning, but they are foregoing these warnings and going straight to tickets due to the expceted numbers in the next few weeks. Don’t let your dogs run lose within city limits!!!

Check out this website
I don’t think they can just decide to create a fire ban because of a bunch of hippy’s It’s supposed to be a process based on the weather conditions. There were no fire bans last year on the 4th and I couldn’t find any articles about it. Careful not to give rumors too much "fire" that is exactly what is happening with the locals around here and all the storys about hippy’s breaking into their homes/cars stealing food…
we have a history of everytime we gather in a state where theres a drought..the drought ends..u cant have a rainbow without rain
in fact i think i remember hearring thatthe 2 foot of snow the first few days i was at utah was the 1st measurable precipitation that area had in,was it years? lis, isnt it stormy there today? & lookin at the weather looks like alotta rain commin that way, there certainly shouldnt be a need for a fireban
blue skyes out my window, but a little breezy. I work in a restaurant with an outdoor patio and we have had to close it a lot recently due to rain. I don’t forsee a fire ban, this is one of the wetter summers we have had in a while.
exactly my point..rainbow always brings plenty of rain & historicaly has ended even the worse droughts
lis ya gonna get some time off work to come chill with us in the woods?

I was at the Spring Council and the National (planning on coming back) and the environs that I noticed were Mosquitoes and Cold nights. The Mosquitoes are aggressive, sometimes even biting in the sunlight. Our *natural* DEET free shit was worthless after a few minutes, thus the retreat by us for another day. (baby being biten)…there was also lack of *safe* water. THere were filters being used though…
no shuttle yet…

Seed Camp isn’t as fun as I thought;P Spring Council was okay. Though the *consensus* is a fake…Rob *told us* where the site was. There weren’t any *proposals* to the gathered circle.
Just a few days ago, the ONLY wet spot on the map was Steamboat. I can see why they picked that sight. Too bad it’s in a friggin’ Mosquito Swamp.
The fire noted by DrumminMama isn’t in La Veta, it’s just over the hill (mountain) from my Mother’s house, on rt. 160 Pass Creek/Mato Vega and Paradise Acres…my old stomping’ grounds…
The National site is SOGGY w/moss…bring tarps. Also it’s a burner in the day…bring lots of Sunscreen…UV index is rated 9 out of 13
nothing ever works against the mosquitos at gatherings, but, they only bite the 1st 2 days there, get allittle dirty & hang around a fire alot & dont use any scented products & in 2 days they stop bitting you & start bitting the clean fresh new arrivals
i’ve even triedsme stuff comando’s use in the jungle & it dinothing, but soke & dus& muddoes he trick everytime (and good ow sweehigh garlic diet) in 2 days

sister,, ya must understand.. .. no never mind ya wont..

im sorry for your lack of understanding..
we do ..
if ya have read enough,, ya know about "THE FIRE NAZIS!"..
HHEHEEEHHEE
what hes sayin about fire nazis is we habve our own folks who inspect every fire, make sure theres no personal fires, & all firepits are safeas can be with plenty of water on hand in case of any problems, the pits are done to illiminate any chance of future root fires & the areas cleared of debri, the fires are the centers of fucus,
we;’ve been doin thos for years we know how to do ir eight, so we appreciate your voice in this, but the point is, its our voices saying he same thing here
at near freezing firesare necasary, but only communal fires & safe, kitchens can use propane if appropriate, but cook fires are the safest of all
as for blis pit fires, they cannot get out of control with 50 people huddled around it for warth & entertainment we call the fire hippy tv cause we watch it closely for hours on end
