for us, once the stuff is packed in, we spend the next several days building the kitchen & once that’s done, most of our energy goes into running the kitchen (course JuJu always makes some time for guitar playing) we take one day off per Gathering to wander, either the 3rd or the 5th of July and we have one night off…our anniversary!
i have no clue what I do because CO will be my first gathering. I have a million things that I want to do. I’ll prolly go meet new and interesting people to talk to for hours.
uh… live… sounds rediculous..but what else is there to do..
i try to see the sunlight and not sleep too much although the hammock sucks me in sometimes, goin swimmin’s always nice, but family and music is usually better..

ha ha ha… ya the last gathering I went to was Idaho 2001, I had been awake for 24 hours by the time I arrived there. I then packed all my stuff about 2 miles in (heavy heavy heavy darn canned foods and water) then put up my tent and crashed i was up for 27 hours by the time I went to bed with no mind altering substances…. I awoke around 4am and went to the big drum circle at main circle poked some smot and all was good….
Mike…
I fairy all night @ Tea Time or help out @ kiddie village, I’ve usually got two rug rats with me and they love rainbow land.
As long as there is daylight left, I scout around for a good place to camp with a bit of isolation, and set to tidying my spot up. After my tent is up, and I feel my stuff is properly and securely stowed I just set to wandering.
Usually, I collapse in exhaustion for a while (from both, carrying in my own gear & drum AND helping out mud-stuck hippies in the parking lot!) and hope that whomever I camp near will walk on my back and realign that there spinal column!

Haha last gathering was vey trying to get to…gold river in BC in August. We were drivin along and we saw a sign.It says emergencey dancer 4 by 4rs only. We{re like emergency dancer????….silly rainbows…..Im trying to get there real fast cause my two week old neice is at her first gathering and not staying long. Neway we take the emergency dancer road and its insane. The road is so crays that fuel for firedancing spills allover the huge bag of rice in the back of the truck and the box of peaches gets squashed beyond belief. We hit a dead end and dyl daddy gets all pissed off and we get out and walk for waaaay to long looking for the gathering then we turn around and drive back only to find the sign again that actually says emergency danger. Hahaha. We cant find a flashlight and wind up crashing on the trail on the way in. By the time we get there the next mornin my lil baby niece is gone and I head to the coffeshop to see who I can see. Run into a friend and hit the beach and then the kitchen to help with supper preaparations. Its different every single one is different….
Oh yeah, my sister in law tells my worryer ma that she didnīt see me at the gathering and that Im with some guy they had never met and my ma gets allover the BC rainbow website worrying her head off looking for me. Cmon ma, Im a big girl now…really.
i have no clue what I do because CO will be my first gathering.
I’ve only been to one national, but it was a tremendously wonderful experience. To me, the whole key was WORKING HARD. Be prepared for 12-hour workdays, and working till it hurts BAD. I truly believe that the many good things that came my way came about mainly just cuz I worked my ass off, pushing myself hard at times.
That was 1999, and with the exception of moving, I’ve not had a week of such hard work since then.
It sounds trite to say "you only get out of it what you put into it," but rainbow seems to be the ultimate example of a place where that is true. Haul water for hours, and you won’t have to worry about getting whatever bliss you dream of

I am not sure what I am ganna do when i first get there, THIS YEAR WILL BE MY FIRST GATHERING. I am going with my best friend, who has been going since she was about 8 with her grandma. I can’t wait…!!!
The only thing is that I have to convince My mum that I will be okay… she thinks it will be dangerous because her friend said her daughter went and was drugged up and brainwashed which i dont believe. Sooo… If you have advice on what to tell my mum… just PM me.
my first gathering in 97 we got there in the middle of the night and pitched a tarp and headed toward the drums. it took two more days for me and the one kid i found again in the morning to find our camp.my freind was so spun he asked everyone we met where his camp was. on the long walk when the sun rose. i seen two people makin love in the grass somewhere near fairy camp most beautiful thing ‘ve ever seen in my life.
i guess it all just depends on how you look at lovemaking. i personnally have only hooked up with anybody this year. it’s not a major goal. i feel that running around constantly searching for …"whatever your looking for" is going to waste al ot of time and distract a person from deeper experiences.
sex isn’t always one person taking advantage of another, though in babylon sexuality has been defined as this huge sinful thing that ends up in pain. generally speaking.
though performed properly. sex can be a wondrful communion with another individual (or several) and possibly with the creator itself.
lotsa folks are uptight about sexuality because of upbringing or whatever. i think it’s easier to hook up at gatrhering because the constant fear of rejection that is present in some form throughout the babylon, is not at gatherings the envirement itself is very
affirming for the individual. though if you just arrive at nationals drop your shit. and start humping. there may be alot you miss out on, but a lot you won’t
how different is a sexual encounter, full of love and rythem both driving towards mutual exctacyand fullfillment. . and playing those drums. kinda the same concept different methods.
can’t wait to do both, though not at the same time,
lovein ya family, see you this summer.
besides i dont slut around at gatherings. that’s what festies are for.

One of my primary concerns about going to my first (and only, so far) National was simply the health concern. In the spring of ‘97 I’d gone to a local/regional gathering, and picked up an illness that took me out of commission for more than a month. I could hardly stand, doctors could find nothing wrong with me (they tested for mono, etc.), and just when I started thinking it was a lifelong chronic crisis, it went away just as mysteriously. It scared me pretty badly, I was even fired from my job over it, we had to move, and we had some difficulty even finding someone to rent to us. It’s all better now though
Having heard a lot about the importance of adhering to health standards at a national, I was a bit concerned when I went to Pennsylvania in ‘99. Luckily, I found OM Valley kitchen early on, and the folks that ran the kitchen were exceptionally attuned to health concerns, and had an exceptionally outstanding setup. I noticed that the closer I got to "downtown," the worse the sanitary conditions at the kitchens. I don’t want to name any in particular, but some were not looking very good. I also noticed that kitchens with a large number of "old folks" involved tended to be more sanitary (I hope that wasn’t an early sign of age-ism!)
My point is that not all kitchens are equal in that regard, and I noticed that the fringes of the gathering seemed to have more hard workers and fewer people just blissing; the areas most densely populated had many kitchens that weren’t cared for as well.
after my stuff is in, i usually visit a-camp and bring some beers to share.
rivulation…yeah, i believe most of the brainwashing tools are owned by the cia and the media. hippies would never bother to lug large brainwashing laboratories through the woods, and the paraphanalia that goes with (such as the little machine that holds your eyelids open while you watch scary images) are just waaay too expensive for your average hippy. so i wouldnt worry about it.
