boys in underwear

During previous gatherings I have either been pregnant or living out of my Rv, thus I never had to worry about the issue of what to do if I have my cycle during a gathering. I had water & a sink in my RV to wash my rags in … this year we are in a tent, I am not pregnant, and unsure whether there will be water available for washing menstral cloths if my time is arrives. Seems to me that tampons would take way too long to decompose in a shitter. Even the Seventh Generation brand tampons / pads, when reading the packaging, sound like the same environmental problem. What do other sisters do? Loving some ideas …..

the diva cups sound kinda weird to me but thoe who use them seem ok withum,,, i just think i would wanna get one before hand and make sure its something yer comfortable with…. we generally carry our own water in a couple gallons to have at a gathering,,, making things easier,,, as far as disposal of fem, products ,,, i generally carry in some sandwich size baggies that seal thwen carry a gallon or two size to seal nasty things up in n then truck them back out,,,, aint out in open aint the perdiest thing to carry in yer bag but has worked with no major grossness,,,, although it aint like we go in the woods for more than 10 days or so…. dunno bout long term stays…

I know one sister that I was with used to use sea sponges cut to fit. Reusable of course. She learned it from another sister at a gathering. It seemed to suit her fine for the many moons I was with her.

Any other sisters have any experience with sea sponges?

The Diva cups / Keepers are pretty cool, I’ve had freinds mention liking them. I have an IUD type birth control however and for some reason people with IUD’s are warned not to use the cups. Great idea though, thanks for the input. The sandwich bag idea is a good one … I’m thinking it could be a bit yuck carring around but works if there isn’t readily available washing water. I appreciate everyone’s input!
diva cups are good because you can keep em in for longer - there’s no risk of TXS. therefore, you can keep it in until it is full, thus causing you to change it, say, only once or twice a day. just make sure you’ve got soap and enough water to wash it carefully before re-inserting. perhaps if you bring tampons you can bring along a ziploc bag to put all the garbage in?

Sea Pearls, natural sea sponges.

I found them at Wild Oats and used them for a while now. They are super convient for camping as it only takes a cup or less of water to rinse them out. I found them on the web here:.

I have also used the "bag" method and you can get all natural cotton tampons, and they will degrade, but dogs tend to like to dig them up and that is not so great. I have never used the cup, but know women who have and love it. And it does seem like it would be the easiest option.

Sea Pearls are a natural sea sponge. I have used them for a while and I garuntee there is no glass, lol. I found them on the web here:. I just happened to see them at Wild Oats one day.

I have used the bag method, it’s not as bad as it sounds. You can get all cotton degradable tampons, but I have seen dogs dig these up and bring them to camp, yuck.
I have never used the cup, but it sounds easy and I know some women who use them.
Nah Bumble Sis~ natural sea sponges…no really!! I suggest boiling them in water to kill any bacteria that might grow. Always keep the hands clean for insertion/removal…also tying a cord around it helps with removal. I used to boil it with apple cider vinager too. I dunno why, I read it somewhere (forget where)…

Glass-Sand-Silica(computers) to DNA, coming VERY soon!

Okay, I’ve known Women & Ladies who’ve used the Sea Sponge for ions now!!! It’s certain sponges, like you wouldn’t want to use a loofah. Here are some EXCELLENT Sites on the matter with Plenty of directions/Info.

Tradin’ Bill

I think there’s a specific kind of sea sponge you can buy for your moon, but I’m not sure.

Carefull with the Diva cup, the suction/pressure can lead to cervical cancer I heard.

It’s a good question, I’m gonna do some research myself.
hey, i have an iud and I asked my midwife about it and she said it would be fine to use a diva cup/keeper since I couldn’t imagine going back to anything else… I also looked it up online and lots of people use it.. there’s a moon cup in europe where more people use IUDS and they talk about using it with an iud on their site. it really shouldn’t be a problem, just make sure you break the suction before removing it by hooking your finger under the rim. Otherwise the suction could pull on the iud’s string. If you just got the iud I’d wait, but after a few months it would be no problem if suction is broken.
I’ve always did the pack it out thing too. It is kinda gross, but oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do. In the area I’m in it might be hard to find a diva cup or anything like that.
I would be interested in seeing any evidence or reports of cervical cancer when using the keeper or diva cup. I know that tampons and sanatary napkins cause problems such as cancer, but I have never heard of the cups doing it. The suction wouldn’t seem to cause it anymore than anything else in there (thrusting during sex etc). An IUD effects the cervix way more, and I haven’t heard of it causing cancer. Keepers are not bleached or anything nasty. Anyways, I’m studying to be a midwife and women’s health interests me and I would never recommend tampons or pads, but would recommend homemade cloth pads or a product such as the keeper. I tried to find evidence linking it to cervical cancer but all the links I could find was recommending it to prevent cervical cancer from dioxin in bleached "sanitary products". Thanks.

Sorry, had a computer fart I guess, it kept telling me I wasn’t logged in.

There are lots of good sites on the Sea Pearls. You don’t have to boil them, they come cleaned, but you can. Only it will make them not last as long.

These links should answer any questions you have:

I have heard no evidence that the diva cup causes cancer either. I know a couple sisters who use and love them!I really think that the cup or the natural sea sponges are probably the best bet for camping.

Here is info on the Diva cup:

Also I have heard sisters who make thier own washable pads, much cheaper than buying them. One sis said she made lots, then kept them in a baggie until she gt to camp, then soaked them in a plastic container with a lid. She says she had no problem washing them every day.

Here is a link to directions to make your own:

Tasare: Yes they may seem Funky, but its a good idea to think about these things before you find yourself in the woods with no idea what to do!

What I find even more funky, is to be walking through the woods and see tampon wrappers, applicators and tampons dug up and drug out by dogs. Yuck! If you must use conventional methods, please make sure you bury them deep enough! Or better yet, use the "baggie" method and carry them out to a trash can!
This is definitely a good thread. I’ve wanted to try something different for a while now but haven’t taken the initiative. ?’s: If you have a diva cup/keeper and you’re in the woods what do you do with the blood when you empty it? I realize its a very little amount, but would dogs get into it if you bury it? I heard several people say they burn their tampons-is there any harm in that?
I have an IUD and I use a keeper for a long time now too. I´ve never had any problems. As for where do I dump the blood, down the shitter silly. It is nice to bring a bottle of water so you can rinse it out before you re-insert it.
So for a really light flow just take a piece of moss and place just outside the opening of the vagina…yep works for me…some folks reckon it wouldn’t work if you’re heavy… then just bury the moss and get a fresh a piece whenever you like…this sea sponge business sounds good though…

hmm I dunno….the keeper I have came in a lil cloth bag with a drawstring…no box, a pamphlet tho. I wasn’t sure if I should use it either then some sister researched it on the net for me and told me it was fine, so I tried it and so far so so good.
