If anyone has any questions about Clarksville or the surrounding area I’ll do what I can to answer them. I’m not real familiar with Fallsville but pass through there from time to time. If I remember correctly theres one sort of tiny general store in Fallsville but it doesn’t have any gasoline. There is a small store in Ozark about 5 minutes from there. Clarksville has been pretty dry this spring but we got a good bit of rain today and more is expected through the week so it shouldn’t be anywhere near as dry as last year’s gathering. There are camping spots along the river just south of town past the walmart on exit 58. That park has rv hookups and open showers. If you drink you’ll have to go to Scranton across the river for beer or Altus (famous since the simple life was filmed there) for wine and spirits which is about 30 minutes west on I40. The Harvest Foods is franchise but locally owned if you don’t want to shop at walmart. Panther activity has been a lot higher in town than normal this year. It shouldn’t be a problem but if you go wandering far from the gathering just be aware. The local paper can be read online at Also, I’ve talked to a few family and they said leos are being a problem (one guy said they basically tore his car apart) so be careful. You don’t want to get caught with more than 1 oz of grass on you for sure. Thats all I can think of atm. If you have questions just ask away.

i havent been up to the gathering yet…seen a lot of members in town though, a lot of the local businesses are being, if i may use the word "A$$holes" about such things as wearing shoes in the stores and rampant reports of younger people going in the local grocerey store and poking holes in food to get them to throw it out. i heard rumors that a 8 to 10 shoplifters have been caught in walmart in the past 4 days. and there have been as many calls to the police about other things… on the one hand, dont hold it against the small business owners because they are only going by what the police have scared them into believing… wal mart on the other hand hold it against…lol… wal mart has ruined this town.. down town used to be a nice place with lots of family owned stores…now..well there is wal mart.. anyways.. just keep your heads about ya and be cool… and if you need smoking supplies, tobbaco papers, tobbaco pipes, tape head cleaner. be sure you use those words to buy em…if not they will throw you out of the store for words like, bong, pot pipe, poppers… im sure most of ya know that.. but they have told the 3 smoke shops here to be very strict about it… though the best place to go to get smoking accessories is the L&R smoke shop in the shopping mall between pizza hut and atwoods. if you need any more info about anything in town just send me a msg…i will be happy to help.. BC
thank ya guys great info
becool i think just about every1 would rather go to trade circle to get a pipe then they would a local smokeshop
diode, thanks for the info. For some reason I knew issues related to the leos and local bussinesses were going to be a problem. I just kinda believe that the businesses are lying about shoplifters, especially walmart!
bumble i doubt theyre lying exactly however 4 were caught shoplifting
it never mentions how many are caught in an average week
the tightened security can account for a slight increase in the numbers caught
but in the past when we’ve gone around after the gatherings to local businesses they report no significant increase in shoplifting but a huge increase in profits
did the article specify that 4 rainbows were caught or 4 people
after the pa gathering a few had been caught shoplifting & they all turned out to be locals whod been caught before as well..
im not saying no rainbow would shoplift, its happened & ive seen it myself, but generaly were more conseice of what we do, & when 1 rainbow sees another shoplift, especialy in the towns surrounding the gathering theyre usualy schooled about it
to all 1st time gatherers we are all ambasadors repressenting the rainbow nation whenever we are in babylon … make your actions repressent how you wish family to be seen
if you dont like locals looking at you as theives then by your actions prove that rainbows are not theives

i dont think it was in the local paper? it only comes out once a week…lol.. on wed. i had heard about trade circle, i was just passing on some of the local "no no’s" for the youngers. the home owned grocerey "harvest foods" called police on some people who were walking around in the store eating items before they were paid for, my sister works there, i think a few were arrested though im not sure. my father was a leo in this town for 40 years and im almost related to everyone in town… so if you have any probs or questions dont hesitate to ask and i will help if i can.. and too i have a 63 or so gmc bus that has some parts on it if someone might need em…the motor was running but tranny is bad… i use the body itself for storage. a lot of decent lenses and some other stuff on it though that could go down the road if it was needed.
so is there any info on road blocks?? are tha leos pretty heavy n tha area??? whats tha scene looking like right now?? are there lots of ppl there yet??

i always assume that i will be harrassed by law enforcement no matter what event/gathering I go to.
u definatley r speakin truth there bumble..lol aint it a bitch..lol
I want to say Soaring Eagle, you are doing a great job helping others who are planning to go the Gathering this year! It is really inspiring to see someone post with love and patience towards others as you have done here for so long.
If I had my own gathering at the same time as nationals I hope I can remember not troll threads with hostile comments but can start my own threads and conversations with eagerness and hope! It would be nice if we all had our own little gatherings at different dates and places but the Gathering of the Tribes is the downbeat and no matter what else goes on when, the first week of July will see me and mine there if I can go anywhere!
Keep the info coming from the locals!
dood if i wanted to be a troll i certainly woulda done a much better job at it..
an quite frankly,, i could care less what you would do if you were doin…
as i recall this was a thread for locals to answer questions,, not for anything else..
so lets get this back on topic shall we??
I’m sure you could.
I didn’t think you would.
I thought that too.
and
I said that already. What happened? j/k!

Great to have you here to keep things down
to Earth, hillbillie!!
I know that SE is something of a centerweb for contact, as he stays in touch with a LOT of individuals.
Eagle, It’d help if you attribute info…actually that is good for anyone in here!
again, diode, thanks for being our on the ground local.
I love the area, but am working 2 jobs (eyeing a spot in southern CO and need the cash for the lot) and cannot get away.
give your love to Ozark natural foods in Fayetteville! buy kidvillage a bunch of oatmeal or something…
I went into town this morning to see if I could get some info on any roadblocks, cops, etc but I didn’t run into any family that had come from the gathering. So all I know is kinda old news which I already posted. Just that the cops are searching vehicles and doing so thoroughly. I’ll try going into town in the afternoon tomorrow. As to the numbers of people here, last year I made it into Steamboat on Sunday before the 4th and I can say that I have regularly seen more family in town here than I did in Steamboat that day. There is not an increased police presence in Clarksville atm. I did hear that dumpster diving is not cool with the police here for some reason. I have not been to the site yet so thats all I can provide. Hopefully I’ll have more info later.
dumpster diving is illegal? wtf? obvisously the previous owners of the stuff in the dumpsters don’t want it anymore. geez, some people never seize to amaze me!
Yea Bumble, I bet its totally legal but just an excuse for the cops to investigate someone.
dumpster diving can be prosecuted as trespassing.. remember last year in colorado???
Dumpster diving is illegal in alot of places, it is that they dont enforce it. my family and i have been chased out of alot of dumpsters, we just go back later.

Yeah, that was just after the Gathering in what town? It made international news…got so many hits it crashed the Steamboat paper’s server, if I’ remember right. Convictions were overturned, I think, but after the kids had already done jome jail time. Diode, perhaps the local Chamber of Commerce or somebody might could be reminded that the Whole World really is watching, and while they may want the local constabulary to keep everything looking all Pleasantville for the tourists and their $$, a hue and cry in the Press about how rural Arkansas cops really are as bad as the tourist’s worst fears won’t help to bring ‘em in.
Well as far as Clarksville goes they will give anybody trouble that looks outta tha ordinary .. its a college town and they say they have an image to uphold … SE was right when he said that tha gatherings should be held n places that need it tha most and well, i think tha south needs some good ole hippie luvin

Well I passed through town today and saw several groups of folks. I didn’t stop to talk because they were already chatting with cops. It looks like they were being ticket for spanging. Ordinarily that would not draw the attention of the cops here so they are just trying to make trouble.
only other thing i can add to diode’s is that a group went swimming at a local park…horsehead recreation area, and went sans clothes…(*nude).. caused a bit of trouble with the locals morals…lol.. and i have a question for the local side of the family about the gathering, i have quite a bit of produce, squash, zuchinni, peppers and cucumbers. i have a decent size garden..if i want to share them.. do i just take em up there?..and if so..who do i give em too so that they will be best put to use?
I live in Fallsville, welcome Rainbows (can you leave your imported L.E.O.s at home next time?) The Rainbows I talked to at the gathering didn’t think the law situation was unusual. Just don’t do anything stupid, watch your speed and have your paperwork handy for the road block. There are dogs at the road block. There are USFS, Newton & Johnson county and State police monitoring the speed limits on the hiway. Watch out for gut trucks (they are immune to speed cops)
DO NOT go through Jasper if you can avoid it!!!!!!! 22nd- 24th is Elk Festival if you are coming from the North use hiway 43 from Harrison down to 21 AVOID the tourists.
Other than that come prepared for MUD it has rained about 3" in the last 2 days
OOPS, I was looking at the wrong calendar the Elk Festival is June 29th - July 1st.
Sorry about that
BeCool, Bro, you can either take the veggies to main supply or you can take them to the kitchen of your choice, it’s up to you. Either way, fresh homegrown veggies are aways a blessing!
Karst, you have a wonderful sense of humor! we would love to leave the imported leos at home but those folks just keep following us hippies around…used to think it was the food but they rarely eat our hippie grub, guess they just must like soakin up the vibe
Thank you so much for the updates wonderful local Family!
becool69, the way it works it this. You will first find the general parking sprawl. A ways form this area you you will encounter the main trail head. From this point your food can be transported (perhaps some miles) by dolly, arms, etc to a kitchen. You might want to find a kitchen and volunteers to help you move the food in advance. There are many kitchens so just pick one that you fancy (there are krishna, baha`i, christian, entertainment oriented, you name it, etc) if you don’t want to give to the main supply. Depending on the traffic and quantity you may want to have one of the taxis transport you, your food, and volunteers to the trail head from the parking sprawl or beyond. Last year general vehicular traffic was not encouraged from the sprawl to the trail head unless you were transporting food or taxing. Things may very well be different here atm, but thats what I experienced last year when I helped transporting food. If you need further info then I’m sure someone here can answer your questions.
oh and listen to karst, the gut trucks are dangerous.
thanks hippiestead and diode, i appreciate the information.. im going to pick stuff for the next two days and bring it up saturday. trying to work a deal with my uncle who has some laying houses for a couple of cases of fresh eggs too… i was at wal mart about an hour ago and met a really nice couple too.. cant wait to chat with them again as well
Tell your uncle with the chicken houses he’ll have a great source of English speaking day labor there for a while. There’s not much a hippie that’s been out in the woods for a couple weeks won’t do for enough cash to get a motel room and a tank of gas. And if you’re spending any time on site, you’ll be able to tell the good workers from the blissninnys and drainbows.
An afterthought–Hippiestead, since you’re doing such a wonderful job as Our Ottaviano, could you perhaps invite that cherrish from AGR over here to this thread? S/he sounds like a local with some good information.

Rainbow Gathering 2007: Further Commentary
June 28th, 2007 at 4:18 pm
So what do you get when you gather a couple thousand people in the forest for the promotion of world peace? A pretty good time so far, that’s the word from the “regs” attending the “national” gathering of the Rainbow Family of Love and Light.
Other than the usual delays in getting set up for the event which have largely come in the form of undue police harassment and inclement weather, things seem to be going pretty good down there. In my time at the gathering I didn’t witness anything negative happening at all, as a matter of fact. I would have liked to have seen more tarps up by the time a torrential downpour sent my family scrambling for cover to “Kiddie Village.” We DID find shelter and fire and plenty of friendly folks, though. Nice people, indeed.
I suppose it vexes the imaginations of those who sit in a nine-to-five routine to try to comprehend the lifestyle that most of these people lead. Many of them have no permanent residence, they don’t participate in the credit culture (system), and they don’t aspire to be the world’s next millionaire. Some might label that as giving up but sometimes I wonder if it’s not good plain sense. We certainly seem to live in a world gone mad. Why not just drop it all and head for the hills? LOL
Rainbow Family members come from all walks of life and various socio-economic backgrounds, but the one thing I’ve found that they all have is a consensus that peace, not war, is the way to human evolution (seems to make sense, we can’t very well evolve if we’re all dead) and that there is another way of living this time we’ve been given on Earth which I have found to be quite fascinating.
The regs don’t really deal with money that much. They mainly barter, just like in the “good ole days.” But like any person who actually had to haul cartons of eggs down to the general store to get dry goods will tell you, it’s really not all it’s cracked up to be if your main concern is CONVENIENCE. I feel that most folks in this country are obsessed by the concept of convenience, so bartering doesn’t work for most people. It’s just easier all the way around to throw out stuff you bought and don’t like in a yard sale and take the old credit card up to the Wal-Mart and buy new schtuff. Fabulous.
Have there been reports of malfeasance on the part of individuals who have come to the gathering? Sure…about 198 of them (violations), according to the last figures I saw. Are these offenses “serious” or not? I suppose if you think it’s worth the taxpayers money to house hundreds of extra law enforcement officers at a Best Western (roughly 40 miles from the gathering, at the SUV rate of fuel consumption that works out to about twenty bucks a day per vehicle, just for SHUTTLING the LEO’s out there…) to issue a couple hundred tickets for minor drug charges, unlawful parking, on a forest road, and using park services without a permit…do you see what I’m getting at here?
Do we really need to have the Forest Service spending what will certainly be tens of thousands of dollars to prevent these terrible “crimes?” Is that reasonable, or logical in any way? Need I remind you that while they were busy covering this Rainbow event that a campground host at the Buffalo National Forest DIED AND WAS NOT FOUND (IN HIS RV, AT THE CAMPSITE) FOR A WEEK by park officials who were too busy checking if people had “all four wheels fully off the forest service road when they parked.” I haven’t seen this story in the MSM yet. Maybe someone will talk about it.
There have been limited (extremely limited) reports of theft from local businesses, but I’m going to wager they will make their money back and more from the money being pumped in from all sides of this issue. The LEO’s need gas and supplies. So do the Rainbows. Money is being made here in the county…bottom line. Keep in mind, that besides the tourism and forestry industry there is virtually no other “industry” here at all. I’m surprised we didn’t put up a welcome sign at the front gates for these folks. We need their money to boost our economy, undoubtedly.
The Rainbow Family still thrives after nearly 40 years of protest, and hearkens back to the anti-war and counterculture movement of the 60s, of which it is the natural progression…many of you remember those glory days. I don’t. My mother was a hippie, though, and she spoke consistently throughout her life on behalf of the ideals of world peace and brotherly love throughout her life. I say that she was a Rainbow at heart. Perhaps I am as well?
