We are leaving from Philly on tuesday. I have a ride for you if you have $150 for gas. This is what the gas comes to after spliting the guesstimate. We may not spend this much and you would get some of your money back if we don’t. PM me if you need a ride!

150 bucks splitting it?? wtf?? does the vehicle only get 5 miles to the gallon???

i mean its 1230 miles from philly to fallsville, if a car gets 20 to the gallon,an ya average 3 bucks a gallon thats only 184 dollars..

how many people are splitting gas???

& they arent saying that it will definately cost that much just be prepared to have that much in case its needed (and certainly its reasonable to assume that it will cost that much) guesstimatings fine but it costs what it costs, be prepared to spend this much, but if you get there for less ya have more for the hat
well still thats ,,say 400 round trip,, why is 1 person expected to anti up 150?????

an why rely on someone else to pay that much out if your going anyway??? why not just say ya got room for 1 more,chipping in on gas would be nice but we are goin anyway??

i mean thats what we always did.. hell if your goin anyway,,some folks just dont have that kinda cash..

how are you doing your math? based on a theoretical vehicle making 20 miles a gallon? & if its a van or suv that only gets 13 mpg hows that affect it?
yeah ,, i figure most vehicles get around 20,an yeah that could be a lot more exspencive in a gas guzzler like a van,or a exscursian(most mid size suvs get at least 20,only huge suv’s get lower)however that would mean room for more riders(meaning less per person for fuel), but thats neither here nor there,, once again,, if your headed anyway,, why require gas money for a ride??? seems a bit,, i dunno,, not my problem i guess…
maybe the 150 is based on a certain number of people & requires having every seat filled? maybe taking 1 more without gas $ means everyone else hasta pay 200? i think the last hmm 4 or 5 rides i’ve had were in vehicles that got only 11-13 miles a gallon. many rainbows are driving old vehicles that may or may not have extra costs besides gas & might suck on milliage
it doesnt matter why they feel it may cost that much theyre just saying be prepared it might cost this much & if it doesnt then ya got a lil for the hat & any emergency situation that may come up
& 150 is certainly reasonable
i expect it to be more then that round trip from here for most people regardless & i think most ppl from here who are going are prepared to spend more to get there if needed

once again ya never answered my question on the requirement for a ride when they are goin anyway..ya ,just keep tweaking the math,yeah it would be nice for someone to kick down some cash to make it easier on those headed that way,,but as i stated,,there headed that way wether someone kicks in cash or not,, are they not??

but as i said,, aint my problem, so there really aint no sence in debating this any farther..
well the people who are supplying the SUV were laid off and have no money, but are willing to put miles on their car and drive there and back. there will be three people splitting the gas. $150 x 3= $450. this is a guestimate. Also, if we have left over money, then the money will be split 3 ways and given to the people who put it up. If I was rich, then i’d pay the $450, but I’m not and ask others to put up the money also. If it wasn’t for this sister and brother, then we wouldn’t have a ride. $150 is way better than paying $250+ for a plane ticket. Plus, road trips are way better. I was offered a ride this mourning and they wanted $200 and asked me to drive. I think this is very reasonable.

ive been offered 3 rides so far all said they expected it to be about 200-250 each
it dont matter what it costs..it will cost whatever it costs, this is what they expect it to cost each & what they wish you to have in case it does
why take a rider with $ if your going anyway?

Well I guess I am rich but the dude I drove to the site didn’t charge him a dime, though he did insist on kicking $20. I just wanted a companion, tire assistant etc. I was going no matter what and even though it is my vehicle I am grateful for someone who will do the whole trip with me and not just a transaction. My rider would have flew a sign if needed, sat on the side of the road if needed to wait for a tow, pick up crayons dropped by my kids, etc. Once they are on the ride they are family. I’ve done the charging thing before and I don’t recommend putting up a number to get a ticket to ride. But good luck with it, whatever gets you home!

What JuJu found out from his bus wreck on the way out of TX’88 is that if you accept any gas money, that can be considered to be ‘taking riders for pay’ and would make the vehicle a commercial vehicle. Admittedly, the insurance company was just trying to get out of paying claims but legally it did fly, even tho only some riders volunteered to fill the gas tank. we wouldn’t accept money for gas or even accept a rider paying for a tank after that(personally, I think if the money goes from the rider’s hand to the gas station’s cash register it could be fought in court if nessessary…)

yes, but in reality me only getting paid $10.15 an hour with bills of my own can not afford to pay $450 in gas. I’d love to live in dreamland where nothing costs a dime, but that’s not how things work. I don’t even have $450 in my bank account. So please don’t jump on my case because I ask family to help out with gas fundage.
I wasn’t trying to get on your case, Bumble…I just wanted folks to know what insurance companies can do, especially with busses.
