Loving you brothers and sisters! We have had a fantastic idea. The Rainbow Gathering will be in either Texas, Oaklahoma, or Arkansaw this year, 2007, and so we put forth the following idea:
Texas has some extremely beautiful areas, especially in the West and South. This would be so perfect for the gathering this year. Also, it would offset the bad karma that Bush has caused for this state by his fascist war machine!
So please, e-mail the following Rainbow folk and request them to hold the Gathering for 2007 in Texas. If you know of any other Family members, please e-mail them too and ask them to have the Gathering in Texas this year. Loving you!

The way to have input on the Gathering site is to participate. get some folks together & go camp in the areas that you thing might work, then go to the spring scouting rendezvous (which will be in mid-April) to tell other folks why you think the area(s) you scouted would work
Me, I think that it’s been too dry in the south; we’ve scouted some in Sam Houston back in 2000 & there weren’t any suitable area that we saw & west TX, welll, it’s west TX & it never had much water to begin with, plus it doesn’t have any National Forest land

I can’t say I want it to be in TX. Actually anywhere in the south seems like a bad idea for a July gathering with all that heat and humidity, as well as a higher majority of people that seem anti-rainbow, and a higher likelihood of getting messed with by the feds. I’m looking forward to the gathering returning to the Pacific Northwest. But maybe I’m just biased, cuz the NW is pretty damn near perfect in my book.
I can’t see how spamming HF is the best way to get your ideas across anyway. You have never participated, we have little to no idea who you are, and quite frankly, you are using this site for your gain.

I live in texas. I have never been to a gathering so I have no idea what would qualify as an "ideal" place but from what I have basically been poling around the town of Ft. Worth some really old family would go to the gathering if it was near (which I’m guessing texas or oklahoma) and other wise they’ll just go to Kerrville instead. I like Texas I think Texas is good hearted mostly….not everywhere but no where is good everywhere.
I would like the gathering to be in Texas obviously for selfish reasons…but yeah just wanted to throw that into the argument. There is family in Texas that loves Texas and maybe they would like it close to home, but instead everybody is just constantly hating all over it. That is kinda dark, and I think Texas is full of light.

I remember Texas in the early 90 s It was a Nightmare with all the Hippy Hateing Rednecks and who can forget No guns getting run over on the 4th at the High noon circle by some drunk redneck Please lets not go back to texas There are better places anywhere else but texas I am sure there are nice folks there but for the most part it is not a Hippy Rainbow friendly Place i am sure of you remember Lets Find some other place PLEASE.
Texas Gathering was ‘88 JuJu was there & he said that despite Billy Ball & crew & despite the water problems, the Gathering was beautiful.
This whole thing of ‘let’s not go to Tx because of rednecks’ is getting old…at the last Arkansas Gathering, the local sheriff was bringing his buddies out to take potshots at the hippies. The facts are these:
#1 it is many years later and a lot of attitudes have changed, East Tx is a lot friendlier to hip folk these days (as I’m sure that Ark sheriffs must certainly be, at least I hope they are! But Tx I know are from first hand experience) 
#2 Tx Ok & Ark are the 3 states concensed to in Vision Council
#3 (not really a fact…an opinion and a hope) The most important factors in finding a site should be good water, ample meadow space, and all the other critiera which scouts look for in order to have a healthy Gathering.
Goddess bless texas but i feel called to arkansas. everytime my ear is filled with the discussion, arkansas is the answer. only online does there seem to be a push for anywhere else. i love u all and no matter where we meet this july i will be there loving you and loving mama.

if its in texas, I can imagine ALOT of people will stay away……….I know the family i’ve talked to around here won’t go there, including myself. I seriously doubt it will actually be there though……maybe, though, depends on who shows up.
I think all the hate directed at Texas is really sad…we’ve lived here every winter since Tx Gathering, we’ve lived here full time for 6 yrs and we love it. Yes it’s hot & maybe it isn’t the best place for an Annual Gathering…because of the lack of springs, not because the leos will treat folks as crappy as they have been so many othr Gatherings
we’ve talked to folks that will go to Tx & not to Ark, we’ve talked to folks who will go to Ark & not Tx & we’ve talked to folks who refuse to go to either state. Does it really change anyone’s opinion continue this guessing game? If folks were so opinionated about where they wanted to be then they should have gone to & participated in Vision Council.

Then why not fear Arkansas as well? At the last Ark Annual, the local sheriff was taking pot shots at hippies. During scouting for ‘96, the locals were shooting at each other & the Rainbows were in the middle trying to provide safety for the locals’ kids. JuJu was at Tx ‘88 and I can say for sure that he feared for his life more at other Gatherings, like Alabama ‘93 where the leos were staring at him mighty hard after he’d been filmed by CNN singing a nice little song for Billy Ball…& it was dark when they cornered him in the Enemies of the Forest camp to ‘chat’ about it… Or maybe MO, where he had a 9mm shoved into his nose by leos(correction, JuJu says between the eyes…) …TX’88 for a piece of cake for my old man compared to those movies…..

I don’t like split locations either but sometimes it happens. we were there for the Kentucky/Alabama split, it sucked not seeing some folks cuz they were at the other site and it was very confusing for some to figure out where Home was because both Gatherings were valid Gatherings. I’m only working info for this year because I’m hoping that there won’t be an Arkansas/Texas split…I’m trying my hardest to get the communication lines opened but there’s a lot of static on the lines, ya know? I do know that there are some folks who will attending regionals this 4th of July but those folks at the regionals will be in the same circle as us all for the prayer…

the only state i’ve ever been pulled over in a vw van, believe it or not, and severly hassled has been texas. any hippies engaged in this conversation have said "beware of texas and mississippi (missin’hippie)". i have to add georgia to that list now. the leo’s seem to have a severe lack of a sense of humor when it comes to hippies or drugs in those states.
my understanding, though it may be homeland security rumor, is that haliburton corporation already has a contract for large portable detentions centers. i also am told there is at least one of those already installed and waiting for "guests" near the mexican border.
i’m also told that because I-10 is such a california to the southeast drug route that all cargo trailers and large vehicles (like school buses and kitchens) are stopped and searched frequently in texas.
needless to say, texas is on my list of "no, let’s don’t gather there" places (added to west virginia). but i could be wrong. anyway, council IS the only way to have a voice.

There is going to be a gathering in Livingston Montana… yea it’s a regional gathering but hell if you wanna avoid heatstroke and want to see some beautiful country why not go there!
I’ve never been to Montana and i’ve always wanted to go there, from what i’ve seen and heard it’s a beautiful place! I can definitely dig Montana………..hopefully someday we can all be there.
I’ve been pulled over (with the cruise control set) one out of every three times just driving thru texas. Have fun there.
Wow, not sure why we rarely get pulled over but in all the years we can down to TX for just the winter, driving a bright blue schoolbus & the years we’ve lived here; we’ve only been pulled over in the state 3 times total…once in the bus & twice in our rather plain looking van (we don’t even have any bumper stickers on the van!) And each time we’ve been let off with a warning. We had some hassles parking in Austin, had a sheriff in Lumberton follow us back to our campsite to tell us that the bus didn’t smoke but the worst road shakedown we ever had was coming out of Atoka, Oklahoma going toward Stringtown.
Maybe the trick is to be as brightly colored & noticable as possible

I guess i’m not a "true rainbow warrior" ………….can’t all be high holies.

all this talk of this state is worse than the other is a bit funny to me. try living in louisiana, lmao! as far as i know there has never been a gathering here, someone send me a heads up if i’m wrong. not many rainbow peeps here either, though we do have lots of prippies aka abercrombie hippies.
to split the gathering in some ways would make a bit of sense to split the efforts of the leo’s, but it will also effectively split the forces of the family. something they would love to see happen. i think early, pre-gathering education and communication with locals where ever we end up would be a much better solution. the money that is pumped into the local economy of these rural areas is incentive enough for them. if the locals are more involved it will make it harder for leo’s to cause problems, because locals don’t leave. also having more media attention from rainbow friendly sources would make it much harder for them to cause problems for us. many of the citations given out each year have no legal standing, since the laws they say that are broken don’t exist. for starters it is legal to camp in national forests with some restrictions as to how long you can stay before you have to move your camp and how far you must move it and there are also no regulations concerning nudity in national forests, national parks are a different animal. the kangaroo court system got choked hard last year in CO due to many rainbows going out of their way to get tickets.
media attention will also help in some ways, but it’s to find those not on the guvmint team. rainbow family isn’t as primitive and poor as it used to be. we have the technology and the ninjas to get daily media reports out to the public and posted online and sent to the media. a volunteer ninja crew to follow the leo’s armed with video cameras to record their wrong doing will do lots to help our cause. there will be many of us at home that can’t attend, but would be more than happy to blast our daily report all over the net and to most of the media.
All those that are paranoid about Texas need to remember that the true heat will come from the feds not the locals this year. That will be the case regardless of the state it’s held in.
I say this because of the raod block incident last year in CO. Actually makes this a better year than most for Texas. Heat is unavoidable this year so might as well get Texas checked of our list.

I’ve only been to one gathering, so I don’t consider my self some rainbow know it all, BUT I do know that if you go to a gathering there is none of the negitivity found here.
The gathering will occur wherever it needs to be,
I highly doubt many rainbows constantly check the internet to get tips on where to set up, they are out there RIGHT NOW, looking for a great spot for us, I am thankful for that, cause i can’t be doing that right now.
Any ways lets try and stay positive.

I vote for ALASKA….think it would be a fine ole spot for the nationals….or back to my stomping grounds….home of the ‘87 gathering: Smoky Mountains in western NC. Some of us had a touch of the upset belly that year but other than that it was a blast.
Anyway…..I’ll go where the gathering goes….just wanted to throw my two cents in for Alaska!
